Welcome to the memorial page for

Dr. Bruce Oliver Nordquist

August 29, 1933 ~ February 1, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Dr. Bruce O. Nordquist, age 83 of Troy, passed away Wednesday morning, February 1, 2017 in the Hospice Unit of Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born August 29, 1933 in Troy to the late Herbert A. and Ida B. (Morterud) Nordquist.

Dr. Nordquist is survived by son and daughter-in-law Peter and Jeanine Nordquist of Troy; three granddaughters: Emma, Rachel, and Ellianna Nordquist; and brother Herbert M. Nordquist of Alpine, CA.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Ruth Myers.

Dr. Nordquist went to school in Troy, and after graduation went to the University of Michigan for his degree in Aeronautical Engineering. During this time, he developed a new way of measuring Turbulent Flow and has been working on helping the world better understand it since 1962, and just finished his thesis in January 2017.After university, he worked in Massachusetts as a Rocket Engineer, and also as part of the Space Program. A few years passed, and he decided that instead of working to develop weapons that hurt people, he’d become a M.D. to help people. Everyone knew Dr. Nordquist’s love for animals, and he’d say he would have become a veterinarian, but the waiting list at the University of Michigan was too long! There are thousands of people in Miami County that are thankful that he chose to become a Doctor, as he was a General Practitioner in Troy for over 35 years. After quite a fight to save Stouder, and his distaste with insurance companies, he decided to close his practice at the age of 75 and become the Miami County Coroner from 2008-2013. In 2014, he sold the farm he’d built back in 1974 to his neighbors, and moved into town to enjoy his last years on Earth. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Troy. He loved classical music, model airplanes, the Green Bay Packers, and singing in the Dayton Philharmonic.

A funeral service will be held 2PM Saturday, February 4, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, Troy with Pastor Jamie Wellman officiating.
