Helen May Carson Martin, 97, of Troy, OH passed away on February 27, 2017 at Otterbein Retirement Center in Lebanon, OH, where she lived for the past 15 years.

Helen was born in Troy to Earl and Goldie Jones Carson on April 20, 1919. She went to Troy High School. She was a strong woman of faith and a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star in Lebanon, Charter member of the Troy Chapter of Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary where she served as President and also a member of the Grandmothers Club of Troy. She volunteered at the Upper Valley Medical Center before moving to Lebanon and was honored as Citizen of the Day for her work there. She enjoyed gardening, working with her flowers, helping others and gospel music. She was known for her hugs, her hats and her smile.

Helen is proceeded in death by her parents and her husband, Lewis F. “Red” Martin, Sr. and son, Lewis F. Martin, Jr. She is survived by another son, Leon R. Martin (Terri), daughter, Edna Vaughan and daughter in law Joyce Martin.  Five grandchildren, Amie Belkibir (Yacine), Jennifer Balazadeh (Saum), Frank Martin (Rhonda), Amanda Marlow (Mike) and Lori Abbott and 7 great grandchildren.

Her children would like to thank the staff at Otterbein and Otterbein Hospice for the care and support given the last few years and especially the last five months.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00PM Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with pastor Ty Williams officiating. Visitation will be 1hr. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Otterbein Retirement Center, 570 N. State Route 741, Lebanon, OH, 45036.
