Mr. Jeffryes was a remarkable teacher at Covington, and his music classes were always fun. He used these wonderful puppets who winked when we got the song just right. I have never forgotten him and his unique way of making class interesting. I now sing the songs he taught me with my own children. Thank you, sir.

Dear Ruth,

I was so sorry to hear of Jim's death. I have thought of you and Jim often since I moved to Florida to help my parents. I have missed spending time with you. You were an amazing couple. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Dear Jeffryes Family,

What a gifted and remarkable man! I was one of the many fortunate students at Miami East to play music under his direction and later have him give private lessons to my son. Yes he taught us to play a musical instrument, but he also taught us about life values, honor and discipline.

My Deepest Sympathy in your loss.

Jim was a wonderful musician. We played with him in many civic bands in the area. He taught at Miami East when my mother, Lois Scott, was the choir director there. She always enjoyed his impromptu piano sessions of ragtime music during the school day. I have Jim's symphonic bass clarinet he played when a member of the Dayton Philharmonic. A ready smile and a kind word from him is what I (Brenda) will remember the most. Bless him and his family.

My sincere condolences to Lee and the entire family. I can still remember the good ol' days of hearing you all play music from my back yard when I was younger and being neighbors.

I was very fortunate and honored to have taken clarinet lessons from Mr. Jeffryes. He made me great! He not only taught me how to be great but also taught me a work ethic that I continue to use and instill in others. I reconnected with him at a clarinet recital at Hayner several years ago. I thanked him for all he did for me and told him..."I didn't always like you but you made me great". He replied...."I wasn't trying to be your friend". We laughed. I am truly sorry for your loss. He was such a talented man. It is a loss for all. My deepest condolences.

I want his family to know that a wealth of knowledge, experience and discipline related to years in band at Miami East has made impacts throughout my family including children, spouse and others who I have influenced related to music/band. Our Fight Song by Mr. Jeffryes is unique and all of my family still sings it . Would love to hear it in full band form again.
