John A. Kruse Sr., a resident of Troy, passed away on January 3, 2018.  He was born in 1927 in Piqua, OH, the son of Norbert and Frieda Kruse.  He was preceded in death by his wife Helen I. (Marrs) Kruse in 1986 and his grandson Josh in 1988.  He remarried in 1989 and is survived by his spouse Barbra H. (Harris) Kruse.

He is survived by his three sons - Michael L. Kruse of Piqua, OH (Beth), James A. Kruse of Pleasanton, CA, and John A. Kruse, Jr. (Julia) of Hamilton, OH.  He has two surviving grandchildren, Brooke Mason and Lance Kruse of Toledo, OH.  He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Sommers of Dayton.

John is a Korean War Veteran, serving from 1952-54 as a supply Corporal in the 6th Armored Division.  He was the Scoutmaster of Troop 75 (St. Boniface, Piqua) for over 20 years.  He was a member of the Piqua Auxiliary Police for 10 years.

During his lifetime, John owned and operated the K&K Venetian Blind Service and Piqua Floor Sanding Co.  He was last employed as a letter carrier and custodian in Piqua, retiring from the US Postal Service.  He was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Miami Shores Senior men’s golf league for 20 years.

A funeral service will be held 12:00PM Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor Jeff Glawe officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00AM-12:00PM at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Piqua with an Honor Guard service by the Veteran’s Memorial Honor Guard of Troy.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in his name to Zion Lutheran Church: 14 W. Walnut St., Tipp City, or St. Patrick Church, 409 E. Main St., Troy or Hospice of Miami County: PO Box 502, Troy. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy, OH.
