John David Sampson, age 98 of Randall Residence, Tipp City, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017 in the Hospice Unit of Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born March 21, 1919 in Mt. Blanchard, OH, to Fred and Gail (Musgrave) Sampson.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Clara Jean (Schmitt) Sampson; son David (Beverly) Sampson of Greenville, SC; daughter Gayle Weikert of Troy; and the grandchildren who gave him so much happiness: Matt (Carrie) Weikert of Hilliard, and Nathan Weikert of Los Angeles, CA. Along with his parents and siblings, John was preceded in death by his loving son-in-law, Douglas Weikert.

John was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University, where he was a member of the Tau Beta Pi, Engineering Honor Society. He worked as an electrical engineer at Hobart Brothers in Troy for 40 years, and used his engineering skills to contribute to the war effort during WWII. He also contributed his skills to his church and community. He delighted in his grandsons, and always impressed them – Grandpa knew everything and could fix anything! His family will deeply miss his funny stories and his caring heart, but his love will be carried on in their lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Miami County: PO Box 502 Troy, OH 45373. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy.
