Richard Lowell Alspaugh, age 74 of Troy, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Piqua Manor. He was born August 31, 1943 in Dayton to the late Lowell Everett and Norma Jean (Sanford) Alspaugh Posell.
Richard is survived by his wife Esther C. (Davis) Alspaugh, whom he married August 21, 1965; sons Kevin W. and wife Shelley Alspaugh and their daughter Aleena M. of Lewisburg, PA and Kent R. Alspaugh of Houston, TX; grandson Adam J. Alspaugh of Troy; and sister Martha Turner of Huber Heights. He was preceded in death by son Keith D. Alspaugh and brother Daniel A. Alspaugh.
Richard was a US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was a life member of Amvets Post #66, Covington, Tippecanoe Lodge #174, Tipp City, and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Dayton. He was a member of the Living Word Fellowship Christian Center in Troy and the Greater Sidney Area Emmaus Community. Richard was a 1963 graduate of Bethel High School. He retired as an over the road semi truck driver for ABF Freight System in Dayton after 33 years of service. His CB handle was “Gingerbread Man”.
Richard was a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather who appreciated all the special, memorable times the family spent together on the farm and on vacations each year. Richard developed a strong faith through the years in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Music was special to Richard. He shared Rock and Roll, Gospel, and Bluegrass with all as well as witnessed to those he came in contact with even recently in the hospital and rehabilitation. Richard enjoyed fishing and boating with family and friends in Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas. He also thoroughly enjoyed working in his workshop in the barn during retirement with family and friends. He treasured many memories of the 30-day trip out west in 1997, as well as the most recent trip to Nashville, TN and the Miami County Veteran’s trip to Washington DC which was especially memorable.
A funeral service will be held 10:00AM Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Pastors Gilbert Welbaum and Brian and Jill Patel officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00PM-7:00PM Friday, February 16, 2018 at the funeral home where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:00PM. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Tipp City with Military Honors by the Veteran’s Memorial Honor Guard of Troy. Memorial contributions may be given to the Living Word Fellowship Christian Center. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy, OH.
