Barbara J. Hayes, age 82 of Troy, passed away Monday, December 28, 2015 at Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born March 15, 1933 in Kentucky to the late Layton and Maudie Rae (Viars) Hysinger.

She is survived by her son Kenneth Hayes of Troy, daughter Pam Hayes of Troy, daughter and son-in-law Heather and Bob Shaffer of Troy, and granddaughter Holly Shaffer. Also surviving is sister Wavalene Kessler of Tipp City.

Barbara is preceded in death by her beloved husband James, who passed away in 2007, as well as sister Wathalene Brumfield and brother Lewis Hysinger.

She graduated from Rockcastle County High School, was an avid gardener, and loved collecting antiques. She enjoyed serving the schools in her community, as well as First Baptist Church of Troy, where she was also a member. She spent over 30 years volunteering at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy. Barbara also worked in Troy for many years, for Kolter's Jewelry, Inland Homes, and Kroger.

A funeral service will be held at 1PM Saturday, January 2, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Troy, with Pastor Dale Christian officiating. The family will receive friends from 11AM-1PM at the church. Interment Riverside Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the First Baptist Deacon's Fund. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy.
