Obituary

Carolyn Mae “Carol” Heaton, age 89 of Piqua and formerly of Troy, passed away 8:42AM Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Garbry Ridge, Piqua. She was born October 9, 1936 in Greenville, OH to the late Chester “Slim” Allread and Dorothy Mae (Bowers) Allread.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Douglas Eugene Heaton on September 25, 2021. They were married 65 years. She was also preceded in death by her great grandson Landon Otto; son-in-law Gary Hillman; and siblings Barbara, Joan, Nina, Beverly, Sharon, Karen, William, and Keith.

Those left to cherish Carol’s memory include her children Melanie Hillman of Surprise, AZ, Steve Heaton (Lisa) of Cincinnati, Bonnie Heaton of Troy, and Connie Veach (Frank) of Casstown; grandchildren Brian and Brock Hillman, Christopher and Jennifer Heaton, Holly Snyder, and Cody Veach; great grandchildren Darian, Damian, Darcy, Patrick, and Helena Hillman, Hannah, Heidi, Hope, and Harvey Heaton, Jacob and Mallory Otto, Sofia and Jack Edward Snyder; as well as sister Sandra Hawes of Greenville; brother-in-law James “Jim” Johnson of AZ; and many beloved nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Carol was a dedicated member of the First United Church of Christ in Troy for over 50 years. She was a member and past president of the Mary Martha Amity Circle and the Women’s Fellowship and joyfully made pot pie for the annual Women’s Fellowship Fundraiser. She was a 50-year member of the Troy chapter of the Eastern Star, Antioch Shrine Ladies Club, Troy Senior Citizens, and a life member of the AmVets Post 88 Auxiliary in Troy.

Carol finished her successful career as one of the top realtors in the area with Galbreath Realty. During her career, she was a member of the Miami County Board of Realtors and served a year as president.

She was known for her pies and desserts and was affectionately labeled “The Baker” by many. She also enjoyed traveling with Doug in the RV, playing cards, Bingo, and bowling. Most importantly, Carol enjoyed spending time with family. Carol was a sweet and compassionate woman and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family would like to thank Hospice and especially the nurses and aides at Garbry Ridge for their loving and compassionate care of our mother.

A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Friday, August 21, 2026 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor Lauren Allen officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00PM-7:00PM on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Memorial donations may be given to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy.
