Obituary

Charles Earl Bird, age 67 of Piqua, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at his residence. He was born November 7, 1958 in Moline, IL to the late Sylvester Joseph Bird and Alice Ruth (Hohner) Bird.

Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his brothers Paul Edward Bird and Donald Allen Bird.

Those left to cherish Charles’ memory include his wife of 26 years Doneda Joy Bird; daughter Stephanie Nickel (Tegan) and son Jesse Sutherland (Joseph Pulfer); grandchildren Stacy, Liam, Roland, and Juniper; as well as sister-in-law Sandy Bird and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles will also be greatly missed by his beloved shitzu Maurice.

Charles was a country boy at heart. He loved spaghetti westerns and reading western novels. He was an avid Johnny Cash fan as well and enjoyed word search puzzles. Charles was a car detailer for Doug Reh Chevrolet in Pratt, KS for several years. He was also a custodian at Pratt Community College. Charles was a great friend and loved his family with all his heart. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00PM Friday, January 23, 2026 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy. Visitation will be from 11:00AM-12:00PM at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy.
