David Ray Smith, Sr. age 71 of Midway, TN and formerly of Troy, OH, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026. He was born May 25, 1955 in Troy to the late Donald R. Smith, Sr. and Cora (Larck) Queen.
Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his daughter April M. Bartley, brothers Daniel J. Stevens, Jr., and Walter F. Queen, and sister Jackie Smith.
David’s memory will be cherished by his son David R. Smith, Jr. and his favorite daughter-in-law Crystal Smith of Midway, TN; brothers and sisters: Larry R. Smith, Sr. of Piqua, Kathy J. Smith of Piqua, Lena Pierce of Piqua, Thelma Matthews (David) of Miamisburg, Roger Queen (Rita) of Russells Point, Cora Belle Cromer (Sonny) of Piqua, Julie Queen of Piqua, Tammy Shekels (Tim) of Minford, Ronnie Smith (Sarah) of West Portsmouth, and Donald Smith, Jr. of South Shore, KY. He is also survived by his grandchildren Daniel Allmann, Andrea Allmann, Karissa Smith, and Dalton Smith; 11 great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; as well as special friends: Uncle Duaine Larck, Pat Bauer, Chuck Stump, Larry (Rich) Smith, Jr., and many others.
David graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1973. He was a proud US Marine Corps veteran, obtaining rank of Sergeant. He served his country from 1973-1981. He retired with Honda Corporation in Anna after several dedicated years of service. David was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. He also had a passion for working on cars. Most importantly, David cherished the time he could spend with his family, especially his grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor Lincoln Robinson officiating. Visitation will be Friday, August 28, 2026 from 3:00PM-6:00PM at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Highland Cemetery, Covington.
