Dorothy Elaine Slack Thaxton, 89, of Troy, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Troy Genesis Care Center.  She was born September 22, 1924 in Troy, Ohio.  Dorothy was the daughter of Harry and Laneta (Jolly) Slack.

On October 19, 1946 she married Russell Samuel Thaxton and he passed away on May 22, 2014.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Slack of El Paso, Texas.  Dorothy is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Sue Thaxton of Troy; one daughter, Carol Malone of Troy; four grandchildren, Amy Richardson of Englewood, Brian and Nicole Thaxton of Columbus, Todd Malone of Troy, Tim Malone of Troy; seven great grandchildren, Ariell, Seth, Nathan, Annalyese, Hunter, Kaitlyn, and Jenna; and a niece Becky Griffing of El Paso, Texas.

Dorothy was a member of the First United Church o f Christ and American Legion Auxiliary Post 43 for over 74 years.  She was employed at Hobart Manufacturing, PMI, and Empo Pumps.  By hand, she reduced, enlarged and inked mechanical drawing diagrams.  She was a 1944 graduate of Troy High School.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Riverside Cemetery, Troy, with the Rev. Dr. Keith Wagner officiating.  A Legion Auxiliary service will be held just prior the service.  Arrangements are entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home in Troy.
