Ethel Mae took great pride and joy in her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their activities and was very proud of all their accomplishments. She enjoyed sharing many family stories, which she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Ethel Mae stayed informed on current issues and was always able to engage in thoughtful discussions on a wide range of topics with anyone. Through her example, she showed us the importance of caring for and loving others.
The love for her family not only included her immediate family, but also included foreign exchange students and their families from Lebanon, Chile, Philippines, and Brazil. She and her husband were fondly called "Mom" and "Dad". She also cherished her many friendships over the years.
Always concerned that everyone was fed, no one ever left her home without taking food with them. She enjoyed sharing family recipes and taught her grandchildren to can tomatoes, green beans, and vegetable soup. Driven by her deep compassion for ensuring no one went hungry, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kettering Backpack Program or St. Patrick Soup Kitchen. Donations may also be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, as she was grateful for the good health of her children and grandchildren and wanted to help those children in need.
The family of Ethel Mae Shook would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers she has had over the last months.
Her service will be held on February 21, 2025, at 11:30 am at the Riverside Cemetery Chapel in Troy, OH. Officiating the service will be close family friend Jane Lane.
