Obituary

Eugene C. Shook, age 96 of Troy passed away at 3:06 P.M. on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Troy Care and Rehabilitation Center, Troy. He was born on December 7, 1918 in Lostcreek Township, Ohio to the late William N. and Iva Ellen (Mumford) Shook.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gathel C. (Loop) Shook in 1985 and three brothers Garnard, Paul, and Victor.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Connie and Paul Knauff of Valparaiso, Indiana, grandchildren Laurie (Brian) Swallow, Kyle (Meghan) Knauff, Lisa (Patrick) Thomas, and great-granddaughter Eloise Knauff, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Barbara Shook of Troy.

Eugene was a graduate of Troy High School and Miami University. He worked at Aero Products in Vandalia, Ohio from 1941-1961 and retired as a manager at Troy Sunshade in 1982. He was the oldest living member of the First Presbyterian Church, Troy, was a lifetime member of  74  years  of the Troy Elks #833 where he served as Exalted Ruler in 1970 and served many years as Secretary of Elks and in 1994 was appointed District Deputy of the  Elks Lodge  and was a 57 year member of the Troy Kiwanis Club. He was also a 73 year member of Franklin Lodge #14 F&AM of Troy  and member of  Valley of Dayton Scottish Rite 32nd Degree. Eugene's passion was serving the community as Santa Claus for more than 50 years.

Eugene also served on the Riverside School Board of Directors, served as President of the Children's International Village Organization, and was a charter member of the Troy Jaycees. He received the Community Service Award from the Troy Jaycees in 1984, and he served the Troy Strawberry Festival as Honorary Grand Marshall in 1977.

Funeral service  will be held at 11:00a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Richard Culp officiating. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Friends may call on Friday two hours prior to the service (9:00-11:00) A.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Barbara Sharkey Shook Bike Trail Enhancement Fund or to the First Presbyterian Church, Troy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy.
