Obituary

Frederick A Justice, Sr., born March 6, 1944, of West Milton, Ohio passed away January 15, 2026, at Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County.

Born to Annalee (Skaggs) Beneze in Cleveland Ohio. He served in the Army from 1961 to 1964 and the Navy from 1967 to 1969. Fred retired from long haul trucking and held many jobs over the years. Fred spent time everyday in prayer, studying and reading his Bible seeking God’s guidance. Fred loved his children and took great pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always made sure to have sweet treats for the littles when they came over.

Fred was raised the first 5 years by his loving grandmother until her passing; he missed her everyday until their reuniting at his death. Fred was born to the surname Justice (James E. Justice) however he always knew James was not his biological father. Late in life he learned his biological father was Campbell “Edward” Vanover of Washington Courthouse, Oh. Fred was never able to meet him. While Fred had several stepfathers throughout his life, two were instrumental in shaping his life from his youth into adulthood. Fred always thought of them as his fathers as they affirmed him as their son.

Fred is preceded in death by his grandmother Rosalee (Green) Skaggs, his mother Annalee (Skaggs, Justice, Swigart, Ferrell) Beneze, his son Theodore W. Justice, his stepfathers Frederick T. Moore and George W. Swigart, his siblings Janet Swigart, William Moore and Jerry Horn. Even though he did not have a chance to meet them, his father Campell “Edward” Vanover and siblings Floyd Vanover, William Vanover and Paul Vanover.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sharon (Dankworth) Justice. His children Frederick (Vickie) A. Justice, Jr. of Clermont Fl., Avona (Joyce Holley) Justice of Springfield Oh., Johna (William) Wathen of Wayne Lakes, Oh., Matthew A. Justice of Christiansburg, Oh., and Terri (Shawn) Ray of Covington, Oh. His grandchildren, Ashlee (Anthony Askew) Duncan, Mark (Ashley) Justice, Steven (Eden) Ray, Kaleb Duncan, Bailey (Jimmy) Justice, Sarah Ray, Brooklyn (Jake) Tobias and Aliva Wiley as well as his 25 great grandchildren. His siblings Barbara (Jerry) Dankworth, Debra Romine, Shirley Atha, Joyce Brown, Harold Swigart, Doris Dodd, Mary J (Vanover) Binkley, John W Vanover and sister-in-law Candace Vanover. His uncles Paul Skaggs of Arkansas and Arthur Skaggs of Bucyrus, Oh., along with many loved nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30PM Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with a eulogy given by Fred’s daughter Johna Wathen. Visitation will be from 12:30PM-1:30PM prior to the service. Interment will follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy.
