Obituary

Jean Barbara Ryan, age 98 of Florence, KY and formerly of Tipp City, OH, passed away 5:33AM Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Dominion Senior Living in Florence, KY. She was born March 7, 1927 in Webster, NY to the late John and Mayme (DeRoller) Vogt.

Jean was preceded in death by her first husband Thomas O'Brien in 1965 and second husband Harry Ryan in 1999 as well as step-daughter Sheila (Greg) Long; and also by her sister Dorothy Mae and brothers Anthony, Howard, George, and Robert Vogt.

Those left to cherish Jean's memory include her children Barbara Jean (George) Orfanos of Long Island, NY,  Susan Vlasic of Burlington, KY, Michael (Victoria) O'Brien of Albany, OR, and Eileen (Mike) Klenk of Hamilton, OH; stepdaughter Lisa (Raul) Ruiz of Clarksville, TN ; as well as 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

During her formative years she was known for her beauty, brains and musical ability. She was only 10 when she created a local newspaper and published it on her own mimeograph machine to distribute through her neighborhood. For 7 years she went with her piano teacher to Eastman Theater in Rochester to play duets for mother-daughter events. She also filled in for the organist at Holy Trinity Church on occasion and wrote the song they sang for graduation from that school.

When she was 13, she was the emcee at the mother-daughter events introducing guests and entertainment. She went on to Webster High School, Geneseo College and the Rochester Business Institute where she was active in many social clubs, edited the school paper and was president of student council.

She enjoyed games of all kinds and would spend hours playing Bridge, Euchre and her favorite, Hand and Foot. She laughed easily, had a heart of compassion, volunteering for many organizations throughout her life. She had the gift of hospitality and made each person feel special.  She personalized cards and poems for her family and friends on the computer for every birthday and special occasion.

A private family interment will take place at a later date in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rochester, NY.
