John C. Tharp, age 77, of Stockport, Iowa formerly of Troy, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.

He was born in Youngstown, OH to the late John C. Tharp Sr. and Evelyn Tharp (McGarvey).

John is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Tharp, who passed away on December 31, 2009; and grandsons, William Richard Goddard and Isaiah Carlton Hardin.

He is survived by his children, John Cary Sr. (Ursula) Tharp of Beaumont, TX, John Carlton III (Kelli) Tharp of Cedar City, UT, Laura G. (Josh) Conrad of Stockport, IA, Melanie A. Byrd (Brad Harper) of Troy, OH, Mary K. Tharp (Buddy) of Troy, OH, Deborah R. Cantrell of Troy, OH; 24 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and siblings, Evelyn (Jim) Fowler of New Carlisle, OH and Charles Tharp of Mesa, AZ.

John was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in the Navy for many years. He received his bachelor's degree for Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University, he worked many years in physical therapy before working at F&P where he retired from.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 11:00 AM with President Mark Zelnick officiating at Fisher- Cheney Funeral Home, Troy. Visitation will be held an hour prior at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy.
