Kathleen “Kay” Rae Lutz, age 85 of Troy, Ohio, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2025 at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ. She was born June 29, 1940 in Massillon, Ohio, to the late Raymond “Ray” and Sarah (Hammel) Remley.
Along with her parents, Kay was preceded in death by sons Steven Swartz and Timothy Lutz; daughter Tammy (Lutz) Gulley; and two sisters.
Those left to cherish Kay’s memory include her husband John E. Lutz; sons Jeffrey Swartz (Candis) of Troy, Ohio, Robert Swartz (Penny) of Sun City West, AZ, and Thomas Lutz (Deanna) of Lombard, IL; daughter Terri Lynn Brown of Minster, OH; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; as well as sisters Roseann Janser of Chicago, IL and Polly Thompson (D. Richard “Red”) of Troy, OH.
Kay graduated from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio, where she was a cheerleader. She had an illustrious 30 year career in banking between Massillon and Troy, holding the title of Vice President. She was active in the Miami County community throughout her life. Her love for animals led her to be an active member of the American Rottweiler Club, where she was treasurer for five years. She was also a member of the Echo Hills Kennel Club for 45 years, where she was treasurer for 15 years. She was dedicated to the improvement of the Troy community and was a founding member of The Future Begins Today in 1993. Kay was a board member and treasurer of Dollars for Scholars. She was an organizing member and elected first treasurer of the Southwest Ohio Antique Bottle and Jar Club.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home. The family will again accept visitors on Friday, January 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. on Friday January 16, 2026, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Piqua, Ohio, with Fr. Steve Shoup officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in memory of Kay Lutz to the Last Dollar Grant at The Future Begins Today, P.O. Box 511, Troy, Ohio, 45373. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home.
