Lucille "Lucy" DiSalvo, 69, of Troy, born on November 12, 1944 left this world on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Lucy took with her the love and support of her two sons, Adam and Jim DiSalvo; a son-in-law, Lawrence Gallegos; a daughter-in-law, Heather DiSalvo; a granddaughter, Hannah; a brother and sister-in-law, M. Frederick & Dee Taylor; and Lucy's extended family – The Luring's – Roger, Kathy, Jason & Martha, Brian and Sara (Luring) Huggett, Andy & Susan; as well as the affection of many dear friends in the Troy area that joined in the celebration of her life during the years and months preceding her departure. She shared her passion for music, the theater and literature with friends, family and associates whose many acts of kindness contributed to the happiness she experienced during her lifetime. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Bennett.
Lucy served as Executive Director & CEO of the United Way of Troy for 25 years. She was dedicated to both the organization and its non-profit agencies whose programs and services affect thousands of people in the Troy/Miami County area. Her greatest joy during her career with United Way was the opportunity to work with hundreds of volunteers and representatives from businesses throughout the Troy community.
She was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Troy, a member of the Miami County FEMA Board, a member of the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce Not For Profit Council, a member of the National Society of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), a graduate of the Troy Area Chamber Leadership Troy Program, a recipient of the 2003 Mid-America United Way Staff Excellence Award for service to the United Way of Troy, Ohio, and received the Troy Area Chamber Community Service Award. She attended Livonia Community College and Henry Ford Community College in Michigan. Prior to her career with United Way, Lucy worked as a public relations service representative with the Michigan Bell system for ten years.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2014 at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 409 E. Main St., Troy, Ohio with Rev. Fr. James Duell, John Carlin, and John Jung officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, 1124 W. Main St., Troy, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in her memory to the United Way of Troy Endowment Fund or the Lucy Fund through the Troy Foundation, 216 W. Franklin St., Troy, Ohio.
