Robert N. Emerick, 78, of Covington, passed away 3:15 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Troy on December 2, 1936 to the late Oliver and Grace (Weidner) Emerick. He was married to L. Zoe Kairchner on February 17, 1962, and she preceded him in death on February 12, 2009.
Robert is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Doug Huelskamp of Covington; one son, Russell N. Emerick of Covington; two grandchildren, Rebecca (Josh) Deen of Kettering, Rachel Courtney of Covington; six step grandchildren, Pam (Dan) Creager of Rossburg, Mike Huelskamp of Covington, Dawn (Josh) Shimp of Versailles, Sarah (Josh) Hembree of Piqua, Krystal (Luke) Lingo of Bradford, Heather (Derrick) Canan of Covington; twelve step great grandchildren, Noah and Zach Shimp, Jakob, Olivia and Emily Creager, Ethan and Alexis Brogan, Calub and Cayden Hembree, Savannah, Liam, and Sindaya Lingo; one sister-in-law, Kathee Cotrell of Piqua; and one brother-in-law, Ed Cotrell. He was also preceded in death by his half brother, Arliss Emerick; and two brothers-in-law, James Michel Cotrell, Danny Joe Cotrell.
Robert attended Mid-County Church of Christ, Troy. He was a 1958 graduate of Troy High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of AMVETS Post #88, Troy and Redmen Lodge #222, Troy. He retired from Hobart Bros., Troy after 37 years of service. Later he was employed by Meijers, Troy for 8 years. For his hobbies, he enjoyed fishing, Cincinnati Reds baseball, the Dallas Cowboys, the Ohio State Buckeyes, playing in the AMVETS golf league and his grandkids and great grandkids. He was our "Poppy" and was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Rev. Ed Ellis officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2015 with a Redmen's Lodge service at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Casstown Cemetery, Casstown with a Military service at graveside by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard of Troy.
