Robert Lee McCoy, 71, of Piqua, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 at The Hospice of Dayton after a lengthy illness. He was born on September 20, 1942 in Dundee, Mississippi to James Watson McCoy and Christine (Lott) McCoy White who preceded him in death.
On February 28, 2003, he married Beth Owens, who survives of the home. He is also survived by his son, Christopher John (Latasha) Smith of Piqua; grandchildren, Nicholas A. Smith McCoy, Miranda (Chris) Sheppard, Sheylynn Smith, Mackenzie Smith, Kristopher Smith, Isaiah Smith, Tayshaun Smith; and five great grandchildren.
Robert also leaves behind to cherish his memories, brothers, Watson McCoy of Troy, Rev. William (Cindy) McCoy of Jacksonville, NC, Charles McCoy of Malden, MO, Rev. Wesley (Jewelettia) McCoy of Troy, OH, Rev. Tommy (Lynn) McCoy of Fort Worth, TX, Terry (Amy) McCoy of Troy, OH, and Keith (Jennifer) McCoy of Fuqua Varina, NC, Samuel McCoy of Peekskill, NY, and James McCoy Jr. of Tunica, MS; sisters, Velma (Marvin) Kinnel of Piqua, Kelly and Debra McCoy both of Troy, OH, Gloria (Michael) Coyle of Noblesville, IN, and Annie (Murphie) Frazier Sr. of Troy, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his first wife Gloria (Minnich) McCoy, and brothers, Willie C. McCoy, Johnnie H. McCoy and James McCoy.
Robert served in the U.S. Army. He retired from The Ohio Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. He gave his life to the Lord in 1989 and served as Senior Elder as well as staff Pastor over Greater Grace Drug & Alcohol Ministry at Agape Ministries in Troy. He later served as staff Pastor and Drug &Alcohol Counselor at Lighthouse Ministries in Sidney, OH.
A Home Going Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 at True Vine Church, 531 W. Ash St., Piqua, Ohio. Visitation will be Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 2 to 6:00 p.m. at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. till time of service at True Vine Church, Piqua. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy with a Military Service at Graveside by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard of Troy.
