Ronney G. Smith, age 88 of Troy, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County, Troy. He was born October 30, 1937 in Ransom, KY to the late Ralph and Vina Smith.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Dora (Knowles) Smith on January 30, 2019; as well as three sisters and three brothers.
Those left to cherish Ron’s memory include his sons Wesley (Cindy) Smith of Dandridge, TN and Ronney Smith, II of Texas; daughters Rhonda (Paul) Wertz of Troy and Stephanie Smith of Trenton; grandchildren Devon, Danielle, Ashley, Cody, Amber, Tessa, Liam, and Sophia; great-grandchildren Alyssa, Madison, Joel, Gabriella, Olivia, Harper, Savannah, Adalynn, Zander, Blake, Samantha, Cecilia, and Cade; sisters Linda Hahn of Piqua and Patricia Kooken of Troy; and brother Ralph (Betty) Smith, Jr. of Marion.
Ron was a proud Air Force veteran, having served his country from 1954 until 1959. He met his late wife, Dora while stationed at Burtonwood AFB in Manchester, England and they married on July 21, 1956. After his discharge, Ron worked as a dealer for SOHIO on N. Market St. in Troy. He also owned Ron’s Towing Services.
Outside of being a hard-working man, Ron took solace in fishing and camping and loved his vacations he took with his family. In his spare time, Ron liked to relax and read, do puzzles and loved learning about the history of WWII. He was also proud of his home state of Kentucky.
Of all Ron’s accomplishments, his greatest was his family. He was so proud of them, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 12:00PM Friday, May 15, 2026 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor Josh Krulwich officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00AM-12:00PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Casstown Cemetery with military honors by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad of Piqua.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be given to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County for their outstanding care and compassion.
