Roy A. Scherer, 86, of Troy and formerly of Dayton, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 24, 2015, at his residence.  He was born July 25, 1928, in Dayton to the late Paul and Dorothy Conklin Scherer.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years Patricia Mullikin Scherer.

Roy is also survived by two daughters, Elaine Scherer and her partner Katrina Chenevert of Asheville, NC, and Kimberly Holbrook of Dayton; one step-daughter, Beverly and Mark Schrolucke of Troy and one step-son Mark and Shelley Williams of Troy.  He is also survived by two brothers, David Scherer of Del Ray, FL and Richard Scherer of Lebanon; a special grandson Alan Williams of Troy; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  One brother, Paul "Sam" Scherer, preceded him in death.

Roy was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Dayton.  He received an associate degree from Sinclair Community College in Dayton.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from the Water Department in the City of Dayton where he worked for 34 years.  Roy was an avid reader who was very knowledgeable in military history.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy, with Rev. Edward Ellis officiating.  Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy with graveside services by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard of Troy.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. on Wednesday prior to the service.
