Thomas (Tom) R. Weng, 83, West Milton, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Piqua Manor. Known as "Pops" to his family, Tom was born September 11, 1930 in Dayton. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Norma (Drews) Weng.
He was married for 48 years (1953-2001) to Betty (Heitzman) Weng, and married to Linda Jo (Gwinn) in 2001.Tom served in the U.S. Army and was wounded during the Korean War, but his wounds did not keep him from working hard. He worked at General Motors for 38 yrs, and designed and built the former Overlook View Golf Course in West Milton at the same time. Tom is currently being honored as a West Milton Hometown Hero, honoring the men and women that have proudly served their country. Tom was a 42 year member of the West Milton Masonic Lodge 577 F&AM, and was currently the Vice-President of Piqua Manor's Resident Council.
Tom received his West Milton High School diploma at age 82, with 3 generations of his family in attendance. Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening at Piqua Manor, and was fan of the Buckeyes, Reds and Dragons. His garden was a point of pride for him.
He was the life of the party, loved by everyone, and he knew no strangers. Tom created a loving family, caring friends and a fulfilled life that will be celebrated. A legacy lives through all who knew him.
Tom is survived by his wife, Linda Jo (Gwinn) Weng; one daughter, Cheryl Dickerson of Englewood, his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Melissa Weng of Dayton; one grandson, Larry Weng Jr. and 2 great-grandsons Tre Weng and Alijah Scott; sons, John (Jenny) Hermann of Charleston, SC; Scott Hermann of Cape Coral, FL; step-daughter, Angela; and 14 step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday July 6, 2014 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor Bob Bell officiating. Funeral service immediately following, with a Masonic service to be held at 3:45pm by the West Milton Masonic Lodge. Interment will be in Casstown Cemetery with a military service at graveside by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard of Troy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes or American Heart Association.
