Mr. Vernon Lee Calhoun, age 83, of Troy and formerly of Middletown, passed away 11:50 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 at Clare Bridge Assisted Living  for Dementia Patients in Troy. He was born May 11, 1929 in Middletown to the late Sherman and Nellie (Lawson) Calhoun. He was married to Carrie Ann Stewart for 44 years, and she preceded him in death on May 15, 2001.

Vernon is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Pastor Michael and Sandra Calhoun of Troy; one daughter, Brenda Blevins of Sandusky; one sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Bob Russell of Middletown; four grandchildren, Jerri and Alan Stacy, and Jared and Stephanie Calhoun; and seven great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Nora and John Dunn; and his brother, Troy Calhoun.

He was a member of the Troy First Church of God and previously was a member of the Yankee Road Church of God in Middletown. He served his country in both the Navy and the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired in 1990 from Armco Steel Corporation with 37 years of service. His hobbies included archery, hunting, firearms, fishing, and golfing.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy with Terry Gray and Rev. Gary Hosbrook officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodside Cemetery in Middletown. Contributions may be given in his memory to Troy First Church of God in Troy, Ohio.
