Obituary

William Edwin "Ed" Ely, age 88 of Troy, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Sycamore Hospital. He was born on May 25, 1932 in Clinton Co., IL.

He is preceded in death by two step-sons, Randy Smith and James Craig Hutchinson and a step-grandson, Kevin Wagner.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Barbara J. (Carey) Ely, who he married in 1986; step-son, Tom (Sandra) Hutchinson of Miamisburg; step-daughters, Tana Poston of Troy and Teresa Andries of Troy; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ed was a Veteran of the US Army and assigned 3rd Armored Cavalry Division based in Nuremberg, Germany. He got his engineering degree from the University of Illinois and worked in the automotive field. He worked many years at BF Goodrich where he proudly associated with components of the SR 71 spy plane. He also worked at Leland Electronics Inc. in Vandalia, OH, Delco Moraine Div. of GM (Contract) in Dayton, OH, Goodyear Industrial Brakes in Berea, KY, and Sundstrand Aviation in Rockford, IL.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home with Pastor David Thomasson officiating. A visitation will be held prior from 1-2PM. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Troy with a Military Honor service by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard of Troy. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy.
