Alexander Hamilton Obituary

Alexander Brosius Hamilton was born on February 4th, 1940 in Troy, Ohio.  A 1958 graduate of Troy High School, he attended Denison University with a Bachelors degree in English in 1962.  Immediately following, Alex went to the Officers Candidate School in Newport, RI and trained as Chief Engineer Officer with the United State Navy for four year, sailing the high seas around the world on the naval destroyer USS Newell.  After serving his country, Alex moved back to Troy to work with his father and brother at the family insurance business, Trojan Insurance Agency where he became president in 1975 until retiring in 2006.

He loved his community serving on various boards throughout his years in Troy: President Troy United Fund (1970), President Troy Chamber of Commerce (1971), Miami County Associations of Independent Agents (1974), President Rotary Club of Troy, OH (1981-1982), The Stouder Memorial Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees, Vice Chairman for Special Gifts (1982).

Alex loved being outside, planting trees, being with nature, ship modeling, sailing the Abacos with friends, crossword puzzles, reading, playing trivia, and spending time with his grandkids.  Later in life he found his calling when he became a naturalist with the Miami County Parks and The Overfield School summer camp.  He will be famously remembered by many young people as “Asteroid Alex”.

He is proceeded in death by his parents (Helen and Tidy Hamilton), and brother (Stephan Hamilton). He is survived by his loving wife (Deb), sister Jean (Grant) of Bellaire, MI; daughter Leigh (Jim) of Plant City, FL; son Adam (Jaime) of Hamilton, OH; step daughter Abbey of Celina, OH; step son Zach of Tipp City, OH; grandchildren (Nick, Connor, Noah, Nick, Nash & Maple), nephews, niece and cousins, and extended family.

A celebration of life will be held in May. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County, or go outside to plant a tree or take a hike and enjoy nature.
