Gary M. Carnes, age 65 passed away on January 3, 2023, in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born in Cleveland, OH on March 28, 1957, to Joseph P. and Gracie M. (Fisher) Carnes, Jr.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Gracie Carnes as well as 2 brothers, Chandler Carnes and Rex Carnes.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 13 years, Dorraine (Emery) Carnes; children Marilyn Ikerd (Kevin Frye) of Overland Park, KS, Demetria Green (Anthony Green) of Houston, TX, Michelle Carnes of Kansas City, KS and 3 grandchildren, Tychelle Conway, Freddie Conway and Y’naijah Sykes of Kansas City, KS. Also surviving are his sisters Daphane Carnes and Shelia Jones, brothers Nathan (Nancy) Carnes, Israel (Denise) Carnes, Romie (Shante) Stephens, Chad (Natalie) Stephens, and birth father Romie Stephens.
Gary was a 1975 graduate of Troy High School and was one semester away from completing his master’s degree in photojournalism at Ball State University. He lived in Troy for numerous years before to moving to Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Gary was an accomplished photographer, having worked for many newspapers in the area and received numerous awards for his photography. His favorite place was his home and loved watching Notre Dame Football. The greatest inspirations in his life were God and his mother. He loved pizza and the color blue and will be remembered for his infectious smile and the kindness he gave to all. He believed everyone should always be kind to one another.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Troy OH with Pastor Charles Carnes officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Troy OH. Family and guests are required to wear masks while at the church. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Troy.
