George A. Howery, age 84 of Troy, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born on April 23, 1937 in Benton County, MS to the late Willie Thomas and Willie Eva (Grundy) Howery.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his daughter, Felicity Melson; two sisters, Essie (A.D.) Dickerson and Velma Shephard; and brother, Johnny A. Howery.
Those left to cherish his memory include his fiancé, Yvonne Strong of Troy; sons, Bond Howery of Huber Heights, OH, Thomas Howery of Albuquerque, NM, and Phillip Tillman of Tupelo, MS; daughter, Trina (Howard) Collier of Piqua, OH; brothers, Levi (Theresa) Howery of Troy, AC (Betty) Howery of Domino, TX, Levi Howery of Chicago, IL and Frank Howery of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Taurean Collier, Devron Cupp Howery, Joshua Browder, Triana Collier, and Lenea Browder; nieces and nephews, Charelette Howery, Kawanda Howery, Freddie Shephard, and Mona Sheppard all of Long Beach, CA, LaTasha Howery of Texarkana, TX, and Sandra Johnson of Tennessee; sister-in-law, Mattie Howery of Memphis, TN; and a host of family members from Memphis, Chicago, Texarkana, TX and Mississippi.
George belonged to Transformed Life Church in Piqua, OH. He graduated from Hobart Welding School and later went on to work at Hobart for 35 years, where he retired. After retirement, George was a harness horse owner and trainer. He enjoyed training horses, playing softball and bowling.
A funeral service will be held at Noon on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Transformed Life Church, Piqua with Bishop Brian T. Hamilton officiating. A visitation will be held prior from 11 AM until Noon. Private interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy, OH.
