Joseph Richard "Dick" Gnodle

Joseph Richard “Dick” Gnodle, age 86 of Troy, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. He was born October 6, 1936 in Troy to the late David Lawrence Gnodle and Mary (Persinger) Gnodle.

Dick married Patricia Anne Sandor in 1958 and she preceded him in death on April 18, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his son David L. Gnodle, who passed away July 12, 2022; brothers Charles Gnodle and Ralph Gnodle; and son-in-law Joseph Keresty.

Those left to cherish Dick’s memory include his son Dennis Gnodle of New Carlisle; daughters Kathy English (Mark) of Chandler, AZ and Diana Lynn of San Pedro, CA; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Cecilia Pele-Gnodle of Lawndale, CA.

Dick was a 1954 graduate of Newton High School where he excelled in track and field, and basketball. He joined the US Marine Corps after high school and served for 3 years. Dick and his wife moved their family to California in 1959. He retired as a supervisor from Central Plants, Inc. in Los Angeles, CA in 1991 before moving back to Troy in 1992.

Dick was a life member of Troy Elks #833, Troy Eagles #971, and AmVets Post #88, Troy, a member of Troy Fish and Game, VFW Post (Mountain Top), Pleasant Hill, and the Troy Senior Citizens Club, a social member of VFW Post #5436, Troy, and the Commissioner of the Parks and Recreation Committee in Carson, CA. He cherished his time spent with friends at the social clubs. He enjoyed traveling cross country and watching old movies. Dick was an avid sports fan and even coached his children’s basketball and baseball games growing up. He enjoyed golf and bowling and won a bowling championship in 1971. Dick was a loving and devoted father and grandfather and cherished his time with family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home with Pastor David Thomasson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 AM. Military honors will take place at the gravesite by the Veteran’s Memorial Honor Guard of Troy. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Troy.
