Nancy Irene Hitchcock, 74, of Casstown, passed away November 10th, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. She was born February 23, 1949, in Portsmouth, OH, the daughter of Moncie Dallas Fairchild and Irene Mae (Hale) Walters.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister, Peggy Shirk, and niece, Rachel Fairchild.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 47 years, Ralph “Ed” Hitchcock; her daughters, Gwen Crowe and Amanda (Chris) Shoup; granddaughters Sara Kirby, Emily (Cole) Landers, Hailey Baker, Kinsey Crowe, and Erin Baker; great-grandson Mason Landers; siblings, Dallas “Buddy” (Sharon) Fairchild and Doug (Terry) Fairchild; and very special friend, Ewela Ratcliff.
Nancy was a 1967 graduate of Springfield High School. Nancy worked throughout her life and retired from Hobart Corporation. She continued working after retirement, and the jobs she cherished most were driving the bus for Riverside of Miami County and being the caregiver to her granddaughters while they were young. Her compassion and love of life were shared with those she worked with, and her impact was widespread.
Nancy loved spending time with her family most of all. Hearing that she was finally getting a boy to add to all of her girls made her so happy. Being with her “girls” and hearing all the laughter brought her so much joy. Sitting around Nana’s table, eating a huge meal she had prepared, and laughing about stories of their latest adventures were her most cherished times. That same table is where she spent countless hours with her best friend of 63 years, Ewela, playing cards and sharing memories of old and the blessings of their growing families.
Nancy and Ed had a love and friendship like no other and were soul mates and best friends. She truly enjoyed living life with Ed, planning their next camping trip or next project. Working in their garden or yard, in the kitchen cooking her family's favorite foods, or drinking coffee on the back patio is where you would find her most of the time - with a big smile on her face and welcoming, open arms.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 16th, from 4 pm-7 pm. A small service will begin at 6:30 pm to share special memories of Nancy.
