Stephen “Selly” Adams, age 69, passed away suddenly but peacefully in his home on March 6th, 2022. Stephen spent the majority of his life as a distinguished Troy, Ohio resident after moving from his hometown of Clarksville, Tennessee. He served honorably in the US Army Reserves for nearly two decades and continued to serve his brothers-in-arms and his community through his associations with AmVets, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the Troy Fish & Game, and as a proud member of the American Legion Honor Guard.
“Selly” graduated from Troy High School in 1970. He retired from a celebrated 20-year career at the Upper Valley Medical Center as a maintenance electrician and enjoyed the past several years serving with Howard Cheney at the Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home. He enjoyed a lifetime of hobbies including bowling, fishing, and golfing. He was a famously loyal Ohio sports fan and never missed the opportunity to open his home to host a party or to tell a wild story for his family and friends.
Stephen was preceded in passing by his parents Bill Adams and Jean Hedrick, as well as his stepfather John Hedrick. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Kathy Adams, as well as his sister Laura (Bryan) O’Toole and her family, his son Ben Adams (Jennifer Schumpert) and his family, daughter Rachel Adams and her family, stepchildren Stacy Bisker (Brent Patterson), Lucus Bisker, Sara (Michael) Clawson, and Shannon Bisker (Noe Castillo) and their families, and lifetime friend Steve Rees, among others.
Stephen Adams was renowned in his selflessness and a rock for his family, friends, and community. He loved hard, lived fearlessly, and carried the world on his broad shoulders for so many. He will be desperately missed.
“If you knew him, words aren’t needed. If you didn’t, words aren’t enough.”
“Selly” will be put to rest and honored through a Celebration of Life among family and friends at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Troy Eagles #971 where a military service will be conducted by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard of Troy. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy.
