Philip Henry Shafer

Philip H. Shafer, age 92 of Troy, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 in the Hospice Unit of Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born July 16, 1925 in Huntington County, IN to the late Weir and Pauline (Huff) Shafer.

Philip is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ellen (Siberry) Shafer, whom he married on August 29, 1948; as well as their three children: Lona (Paul) Jones of Troy, Lois (Jim) Starry of Covington, and Leon (Diane) Shafer of Troy; six grandchildren: Kelley Rudy of Troy, Kristin (Drew) Borton of Troy, Philip (Amanda) Starry of Casstown, Ellen (Joey) Kaleikini of Brandon, FL, Brian (Ashley) Shafer of Raymore, MO, and Katelyn Shafer of Centerville; 15 great-grandchildren; sister Wauline Mather; and brother Lee (Doris) Shafer.

He was preceded in death by son Lloyd Shafer; grandson John Starry; as well as three brothers: Wade Shafer, Larry Shafer, and Loren Shafer.

Philip graduated from Warren High School in 1943 where he was his class president. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Troy since 1964, where he was a Youth Group Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and member of various church boards as Deacon and Trustee.

He worked for Trans World Airlines (TWA) for 39 years where he retired as the Operations Manager at the Dayton International Airport in 1983. After retiring from TWA, he prepared tax returns for H&R Block for over 10 years in the Troy and Tipp City offices. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, April 7, 2018 at First Baptist Church, Troy with Pastors Doug Magin and Dale Christian officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00AM-11:00AM at the church prior to the service. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy, OH.
