Bernard Scott Boehringer Obituary

Bernard Scott Boehringer, 82, of Troy, passed away on Saturday April 6, 2024, at Hospice of Miami County after an extended illness. He was born in Troy, OH on December 5, 1941, to Bernard Sterling and F. Mildred (Riffell) Boehringer, who, along with his older brother Allan (Butch), preceded him in death.

Scott was a 1960 graduate of Troy High School. While at Troy, he was a member of both the football and basketball teams, as well as the track team. In football, he became a member of the prestigious 1000-yard rushing club. That honor earned him a college scholarship to the University of Tennessee at Martin. Also, while at Troy High, he met the love of his life, Karen Harshbarger, and they would marry in August of 1964, enjoying nearly 60 years of marriage. After graduating college, he started a brief career as a Phys Ed and History teacher, as well as a basketball and football coach, in Fulton, KY. After three years, he and Karen returned to Troy, where he began a career in the Purchasing Department at Hobart Corporation, a position he held until he retired. After retirement, he found a new position as a parks caretaker for the City of Troy. In his spare time, Scott could be found at the local golf course, cutting wood for his fireplace, or going to the Elks Lodge where he was a lifetime member. Scott lived his life by the motto 'Actions speak louder than words'. If anyone called him needing help on a project, he would do it. From helping cut wood at the Elks farm, to delivering gifts to the less fortunate at Christmas as part of the Elks needy Christmas program, he was there.

Scott is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Karen (Harshbarger) of Troy, one son Brad, also of Troy, and brother Jack, of the Philippines, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 11, at 2pm at Casstown Cemetery, with Pastor Tara Hornbacker officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Miami County. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, Troy.
