Peter Gord Obituary

Peter Ronald “Ron” Gord, age 78 of Casstown, passed away Monday, July 16, 2018. He was born September 12, 1939 in Moorland, IA to the late Peter Melvin and Karen (Christensen) Gord.

Ron is survived by his wife Kay L. (Davenport) Gord, whom he married June 1, 1963; two sons: Dr. James Ronald (Renée) Gord of Beavercreek and Aaron Christopher (Suzanne) Gord of Centerville; daughter Ronda Kay Weldy of Troy; five grandchildren: Alisha Kay (Brenton) Scott, Joseph Ronald (Kirsten) Gord, Chelsea Maria (Chyler) Hastings, Michael Aaron Gord, and Jeffrey Alan Gord; two great-grandchildren: Eden Bexley Hastings and Evelyn James Gord; as well as sister Janice (Delbert) Abbas of Humboldt, IA.

He was preceded in death by brother Donnie Gord.

Ron graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering from Iowa State University in 1964, and afterwards joined the Air Force in 1966 as a civilian researcher working at the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. He was employed by NASA Dryden Research Center in Southern California where he worked on the X-15 from 1964-1966. He also worked on projects spanning hypersonic, lifting-body, and re-entry vehicles including the X-24A, X-24B, X-24C, the Space Shuttle, and the National Aerospace Plane (NASP). He retired from the Air Force Research Laboratory's Air Vehicles Directorate in 2000 after 35 years of service with the Air Force.

Among his hobbies, Ron enjoyed building model airplanes, reading, listening to music, and walking with his dog Cinnabun.
